The iPhone 17 series launched in autumn 2025 and is now one of the most popular phones in Lithuania. With it came a question we hear every day: which case should you choose when there are hundreds of options?

This guide covers everything you need to decide in a few minutes: how the three iPhone 17 models differ in terms of protection, what types of cases there are, when MagSafe is really worth the extra euros and which glass to apply alongside. Does an iPhone 17 case fit the iPhone 17 Pro?

No. This is the most common mistake when buying online. Although the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro have similar screen sizes, their rear camera modules differ – the Pro model has a different camera block, so the cut-out of a standard iPhone 17 case will simply cover the lens. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is also physically larger than both.

Rule of thumb: choose a case by the exact model name, not by the series. The product name must state your specific model. If you are not sure which iPhone you have, check Settings → General → About.

Screen protectors are different – some fit several models at once because the screen dimensions match. For example, Spigen EZ Fit Pro tempered glass covers the iPhone 16 Pro, 17 and 17 Pro in one pack. But this logic never applies to cases.

iPhone 17 Pro owners most often choose cases that don't hide the body's finish but still have MagSafe.

Best iPhone 17 Pro Max cases

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is the largest and heaviest phone in the series, so what matters most here is grip. A slippery case on a large phone is the fastest route to a cracked screen.

Is MagSafe worth paying extra for?

MagSafe is a ring of magnets in the back of the case that lets the phone snap onto a wireless charger, car mount or wallet exactly in the centre. Apple introduced the system in 2020 with the iPhone 12; it has since become a standard.

Worth it if:

You charge your phone wirelessly – without the magnet the coils don't line up and the phone charges more slowly or not at all.
You use a magnetic car mount – one movement instead of fiddling with clamps.
You want a magnetic wallet or ring stand.

Not worth it if you only charge with a cable and keep the phone in your pocket – then the magnet is just extra weight.

Important: not every case labelled “magnetic” is genuine MagSafe. Cheap cases sometimes have only a metal plate glued in, which a mount can stick to, but wireless charging does not work through it. Look for the words “MagSafe” or “Qi2” in the product description.

Which screen protector should you choose alongside?

A case protects the body, but not the screen. Because a screen replacement on the iPhone 17 series costs far more than a case and glass together, glass is the cheapest insurance you can buy.

Frequently asked questions

Does an iPhone 16 Pro case fit the iPhone 17?

No. Although the screen size is similar, the camera module layout differs, so the case cut-out will not line up. Screen protectors sometimes fit both models – this is always stated in the product name.

Does a case interfere with wireless charging?

A regular plastic, silicone or TPU case up to about 3 mm thick does not interfere with wireless charging. Metal inserts, magnetic wallets with cards and very thick rugged cases do. If you charge wirelessly every day, a MagSafe case is the safest choice.

Why does a clear case turn yellow?

Cheap TPU oxidises from UV light and skin oils – this is a natural process, not a sign of a defect. Hybrid cases with a rigid polycarbonate back and premium cases with UV stabilisers stay clear for longer.

Do I need both a case and glass?

Yes. The case protects the corners and back, the glass protects the screen. Most phones break by landing on a corner, and the shock wave reaches the screen, so the two work together.

How long does a phone case last?

A silicone or TPU case realistically looks good for about 8–12 months, after which it loses its shape and wears. Aramid, leather and polycarbonate cases last for as long as you use the phone.

Can I order a case before I have the phone?

Yes – cases are made to the model's dimensions, so you can order in advance. If the model doesn't fit, KAMA.lt has a 14-day return period.
