A Faraday car key case blocks the wireless signal from a keyless fob so it cannot be intercepted. It helps protect against relay attacks, in which the signal is relayed from your home to your car and the car is unlocked without your knowledge. Prices start from €4.99.
How does a signal-blocking key case work?
When the key is placed inside an RFID case, the metallised fabric forms a Faraday cage, blocking signals sent to and from the key. After removing it, the key works normally without reprogramming. You can test the case in half a minute: put the key inside, close it completely and try to unlock your car while standing next to it. If the doors do not unlock, the case is working.
Which model should you choose?
Size and closure matter most: the key should fit comfortably and the case must close fully, because an open case does not block the signal. Tech-Protect KLR100 is suitable for everyday carrying, KLR300 and KLR400 have a sturdier construction, KLR200 is metal, and larger Faraday boxes hold both a key and a phone.
